AccessPt. Takes Medical Info to Handheld/PDA
Devices
Software solutions provider, AccessPt.(tm) is one of
the first in the Healthcare market to deliver secure,
encrypted, single sign on, browser based, HIPAA compliant,
patient record information to wireless/mobile PDA's.
JACKSON, Mississippi, September 4, 2001 - AccessPt.,
Inc., a leading developer of Internet technology-based
software solutions serving the healthcare field, announced
today that they have deployed their state-of-the-art
healthcare software applications on Handheld/PDA devices.
AccessPt'.s PDA product allows physicians to remotely
access patient information with a PDA utilizing WindowsCE
or a Palm Operating System. Using the AccessPt. system,
physicians can use a single secure sign on to access
all their patient records from a participating hospital.
Physicians can quickly access multiple legacy application
data streams through a single login with AccessPt.
The AccessPt. PDA system assists in greatly increasing
the productivity of physicians, while at the same time
protecting and tracking the transmission of patient
record information. AccessPt. has been developing and
implementing practical Internet-based software solutions
for clients in the healthcare field since 1997. The
company was the first in the business to proactively
install an audit trail for e-transactions involving
patient data, recognizing the need for stringent security
measures would be emerging in the healthcare market.
In 1996, the federal government passed the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which mandates
regulations that govern privacy, security, and administrative
standards for healthcare information. All AccessPt.
PDA inquiries are processed through AccessPt.’s audit
trail and other security safeguards to ensure that the
transactions fall well within the realm of HIPAA compliance.
"We are very excited about the power and flexibility
of our AccessPt. PDA product," says Mike Drake, AccessPt.'s
president and chief executive officer. "Since our software
is a Java application, it is a great fit for the secure
delivery of patient information through wireless PDA
systems."
On the Compaq iPaq platform, AccessPt.'s Java client
code runs on the WindowsCE operating system, supporting
the standard 240x320 resolution and color display. The
AccessPt. system supports a Java environment utilizing
industry standard naming schemes and documentation.
"One of the most productive features of the AccessPt.
PDA system is its capability to deliver patient information
to a physician sorted by floor and room #, greatly optimizing
the physician's time spent on making rounds at the hospital,"
Says Drake.
The AccessPt. PDA application allows healthcare workers
to securely access legacy patient data from virtually
any Health Information System (i.e., Admissions, Labs,
Radiology, Imaging, Transcriptions, Vitals, Pharmacy,
etc.) and from any location through a single sign-on
/ single search capability. All legacy data is presented
to the healthcare worker in a Web Browser format. As
a Java product, AccessPt. is able to run on a wide variety
of platforms and operating systems. AccessPt. was originally
developed by physicians for physicians. Many hospitals
purchase the best solutions for certain disciplines,
yet the "best of breed" approach can often make it difficult
for physicians to quickly and easily retrieve information.
AccessPt. PDA system allows a physician to simply point
and tap to view timely, pertinent patient information
in a secure wireless PDA environment.
